Program updates

Central Administration/General Agency:
>All non-essential meetings should be canceled or rescheduled
  • We will be utilizing as much technology as possible for video meetings and phone conferences. This includes regular weekly staff meetings.
>Masks must be worn inside all Arc Wayne buildings when social distancing cannot be maintained.
>Additional sanitation stations have been set up in all Arc Wayne buildings.
>All staff must complete a health screening before they start a shift, as well as all visitors staying for an extended period of time. This includes a questionnaire and temperature check.
>David Calhoun, Executive Director, is in constant communication with other Arc chapters, state governing agencies, emergency supply organizations and community businesses who can help make the best decisions possible.
Residential:
>Home visits and limited community outings are now allowed per OPWDD guidelines and mandates.
>Health screenings are mandatory for all visitors, staff and individuals coming back from home or community visits. Here are examples of what we document and check:
Community Outing Health Screening
Home Visit Documentation
Health Screening for Individuals Coming Back From Extended Home Stay
>Staff will have their temperature taken at the beginning of every shift and every 12 hours after. All of this information will be logged to ensure we are being as safe as possible and assist in tracing efforts that may come up.
>Staff are wearing cloth masks when at work. Individuals we support will wear masks when in vehicles or out in public on essential trips.
>Increased cleaning and sanitation efforts in all Arc Wayne buildings and residences.
>Staff are continually training individuals we support about proper hygiene and preventative measures to help stop the spread of germs.
>Food and cleaning product suppliers have assured The Arc Wayne that the agency is a top priority in receiving bulk orders of food, cleaning supplies, paper products, etc. and will have everything needed for individuals in the residences.
>Telemedicine kiosks have been delivered with virtual staff training. We hope this will help reduce the number of hospital and doctor's office visits.
Roosevelt Children's Center:
>The Arc Wayne's janitorial team purchased and is using electrostatic sprayers to increase sanitation efforts. The units provide faster, more consistent application, especially in high-traffic areas. These sprayers allow for one person to disinfect an entire room in seconds and up to 54,000 sq ft per hour. This new technology is just one way The Arc Wayne is continuing to keep sanitation and cleanliness top priory as programs begin to reopen.
>RCC will reopen September 9, 2020 for in-person schooling 5 days per week. Virtual options are still available for any families who do not feel comfortable sending their child to school.
>Parents and guardians will receive a packet of important information in the mail followed up by a phone call from their child's teacher or an administrator to discuss the reopening plan. Please contact Lynne Ward, Director of RCC, with any questions or concerns.
>Administrators are in constantly communication with other school districts and SED to determine the best decisions.
Day Habilitation:
>Staff providing Day Hab services in-home are continually following recommended guidelines with small group settings, social distancing practices and increase sanitation.
>OPWDD has issued guidance that states day services can begin to reopen with certain restrictions. The Arc Wayne is slowly bringing individuals back into our facilities depending on health, transportation and need. Program supervisors are contacting participants and their families directly about when each person is coming back.
Key Industries/Vocational/Day Services:
>As of August 3, The Arc Wayne will slowly start bringing more individuals back to work.
>Work stations have been properly spaced out and shields have been installed where necessary to keep everyone in the workshop safe during work.
>Masks must be worn when social distancing cannot be maintained unless a medical condition prohibits an individual from wearing one.

Community Services/Family Support Services:
>Home visit cancellations will be determined by the family or individual. The Arc Wayne staff will ask a list of questions (found here) to determine if it is safe to visit with each person.
>After school program is cleaning shared spaces more often and limiting the number of kids and staff in one room.
>On-site respite is now available.
Erie Shore Landing:
>Increased cleaning and sanitation throughout the day.
>Masks are required for all staff and customers who are not seated.
>Social distancing markers are placed on the floor to help remind people of the guidelines.
Meals on Wheels:
>All congregate meal sites will be turned into locations with meals "to-go" in an effort to limit crowds.
>Delivering these meals are extremely important to us, and we will continue this program until we are told otherwise.
>All volunteers will wear masks during food preparation and delivery.
Quality Assurance/Training:
>All in-person new hire trainings will be limited to 10 people or fewer.
>"Refresher" trainings for current staff (CPR, Skip, etc.) will be postponed to a later date.
>Staff are required to take all COVID-19 related trainings as they are developed and given by supervisors.

Community/Government Resources

>The Cornell Cooperative Extension has published a list of food assistant resources on their website: http://ccewayne.org/nutrition/food-assistance-resources.  They will continue to update this list as more information becomes available.
>FoodLink and United Way of Wayne County are hosting free food drives for Wayne County residents.
>Governor Cuomo's website has all of his press conferences and news releases related to the COVID-19 pandemic and what mandates NYS is implementing.
>The CDC is the most trusted source of information related to the virus. Please continue to gather information from reliable, credible sources in an effort to be well-informed and help stop the spread.

How you can help

>Wash your hands with hot water and soap for at least 20-30 seconds (or use sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol).
>Stay home if you are feeling ill.
>Practice safe social distancing measures (keep 6 feet between you and others, avoid large crowds, etc.)
>Cover coughs and sneezes with fabric or your elbow. Wash your hands immediately.
>Stay informed with the latest factual information from trusted resources such as the CDC.
>Home Meal Service is looking for volunteers to help deliver Meals on Wheels to elderly people in our communities. Please contact Kevin Berry if you or someone you know would like to help.
>Visit NY State's website for the phased, regional re-opening plans.
>The Arc NY and New York Disability Advocates (NYDA) are working to oppose proposed cuts that would slash funding to OPWDD voluntary providers. Individuals with disabilities need these essential services, and we are asking for your help to make our collective voices heard. Click here to send a letter to our representatives in Albany!
>The Arc of the United States continues to work hard to be sure we are in the mix as the negotiations continue between Speaker Pelosi and the White House on a potential fourth package. The compromise package or “Heroes 2.0” did include the additional 10 percent FMAP dedicated to HCBS, as well as many of our other priority issues, the White House countered, and we will see where things land. Click here to see a letter that The Arc did with the Disability Group that they started when COVID began, along with CCD and the Disability and Aging Collaborative, it has been a helpful partnership.
Thank you to all of our DSP's and frontline workers! Watch an awesome thank-you video from CQL here.
